*Fantastic Mr. Fox Play Lab will meet on Saturdays during the semester. There will also be an extra class dress rehearsal on Friday, November 17 to prepare for the showcase on Sunday, November 19. The approximate time for this Friday rehearsal is 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM (subject to change). The rehearsal on Saturday, November 18 will be a rehearsal as well, but will be at regular class time and may or may not be a dress rehearsal.
"Boggis and Bunce and Bean/One fat, one short, one lean/These horrible crooks/So different in looks/Were nonetheless equally mean." And so begins another enchanting Roald Dahl tale concerning the extraordinary adventures of three nasty farmers, two curious creatures, a family of foxes, and our hero—a most fantastic fellow!
Watch Boggis, the (enormously fat!) chicken farmer, Bunce, the (pot-bellied dwarf) duck-and-goose farmer, and Bean the (thin) turkey-and-apple farmer, attempt to foil the efforts of Mr. Fox and his friends—the Badgers, the Moles, the Rabbits and the Weasels. Enjoy the suspense as the animals unwittingly trap themselves in Bean's Secret Cider Cellar—much to the displeasure of Rat (a rude creature) and all appear doomed. But in the end, cheer as Mr. Fox provides a glorious feast for each and every one—and gives rise to Mrs. Fox's proclamation that "My husband is one fantastic fox!"
Students in this laboratory-style play class will use this creative script to learn about all aspects of putting together a show. They will take on every role, both on-stage and off, learning acting, voice, articulation, movement, and stage presence, all in the context of learning lines, playing roles, and preparing for performance. The last class will end in a show for friends and family!
*Please be aware that students may be asked to provide some basic clothing items for their costumes, such as shoes, pants, or solid color T-shirts. Since these are very young students, it will also be helpful for parents to assist students in the learning and memorization of lines for the play.
